About MegaloBox

MEGALOBOX is based on the series Tomorrow’s Joe, which was a landmark youth manga series in Japan. It tells the life story of its protagonist Joe Yabuki, who risks everything for boxing. The series ran in Weekly Shonen Magazine (Kodansha) from 1968 to 1973, moving readers so deeply that its popularity endures to this day.
The television anime series MEGALOBOX was first released in April 2018, marking the 50th anniversary of the start of Tomorrow’s Joe. “MEGALOBOX” recreates the world of the original with an intense drama about a fierce fighting in the near future where people are fitted with gears. It is an ambitious, original work that has enjoyed great popularity as well. The series was particularly celebrated for its vintage filmmaking, which attempts to replicate the look and feel of classic cell animation. It has earned tremendous support abroad as well as in Japan, and was even nominated for a record-setting eight categories at the Anime Awards 2019, hosted by the American site Crunchyroll.
